gaisF’s Dotsport initiatIve set to revolutioniSe digital presEnce of International FederatioNs
At this year’s SportAccord, GAISF will give an exciting update regarding the DotSport initiative that is set to change the course of digital communications for International Federations, as well as national federations, events organisers and athletes.
In 2012, GAISF began the process of applying to operate the .sport internet extension, on behalf of the worldwide sport community. Following contention resolution and related proceedings, the .sport extension was created in the root of the Internet Domain Name System on January 10, 2018.
GAISF’s Head of Digital Services, Pierre Germeau, will deliver a presentation to GAISF members at their General Assembly on Friday 20 April, and he expressed his excitement for the future of sports’ global communications.
“Today there are more than 200 million active websites, with only a few extensions available,” Germeau said. “Not only are these existing extensions scarce, but they have a complete lack of meaning. The DotSport initiative is an opportunity for federations to establish a strong digital presence in many disciplines across the world.
“The advantage for International Federations that sign up to this initiative is not only that they differentiate themselves as the leading sports organisations in their fields, but they automatically expand their global footprint, rather than confining themselves to a website with only one or two language options.”
Members that participate in the initiative can have a full portfolio of domains created for their federation, including portals that can be assigned to different events, disciplines and even athletes. Each domain will be available in more than 30 languages.
The .sport domain is set to launch at SportAccord in Bangkok in April 2018. For more information regarding the initiative, please contact: email@example.com
