The International Federation of Muaythai Amateur, is the international federation for the sport of muaythai, recognised by GAISF since 2006. IFMA has 128 member countries worldwide, and 5 continental federations operating under a unified regulatory body. Muaythai is a martial art originating from Thailand where fighters execute strikes using 8 points of contact: fists, shins, knees and elbows. IFMA participates in the World Games, World Combat Games, FISU World University Championship Programme, SEA Games, and holds many Muaythai events including an annual World Championships. IFMA lodged its formal application for IOC recognition in December 2012 and is now a member of ARISF.
